Chemistry is a basic science that is continually making important contributions to technological and social progress. The Department of Chemistry offers a variety of programs to satisfy a wide range of student career interests. Majors in chemistry will find upper-level chemistry classes small with close student-faculty working relationships. Advanced undergraduates are encouraged to participate in current research projects under faculty guidance.

The professional program, which is designed to prepare students for either graduate study or employment as practicing chemists, offers a B.S. degree. Other B.S. program options are: Biochemistry, offered jointly by the Departments of Chemistry and Biology; a B.S. in Environmental Chemistry and a B.S. in Chemical Physics, offered jointly by the Departments of Physics and Chemistry.
